VisionQuest is a superhero sci-fi action drama series created by Terry Matalas. The Disney+ series is set after the events of WandaVision, and it follows White Vision living in hiding as he tries to understand why his past self used to care so much about the world and the people in it. He is helped by various Tony Stark AIs, including Ultron, and soon discovers that his son, Tommy, actually exists in the real world, which should be impossible. VisionQuest stars Paul Bettany, James Spader, Ruaridh Mollica, Todd Stashwick, Lauren Morais, and Orla Brady. So, if you loved the thrilling story, entertaining drama, and compelling characters in Marvel’s VisionQuest, here are some similar shows you should check out next.
WandaVision (Disney+)
WandaVision is a superhero mystery drama series created by Jeff Schaeffer. The Disney+ series is set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, and it follows Wanda Maximoff as she inexplicably finds herself living the perfect life in an idyllic suburban neighborhood with Vision and her two children. WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Debra Jo Rupp, Fred Melamed, and Kathryn Hahn.
Why It’s Similar? This is the one that started it all, and also this series’ ending directly leads into WandaVision. I didn’t mention Agatha All Along in this list because I don’t see that story directly connecting to this series, but to understand VisionQuest, you will have to watch WandaVision first.
Legion (Hulu, Disney+ & Rent on Prime Video)
Legion is a surrealist superhero psychological thriller series created by Noah Hawley. Based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, the FX series follows David Haller, a paranoid schizophrenic in a psychiatric facility where he discovers that he is not actually ill; the symptoms are just his psychic powers that he will have to learn to control. Legion stars Dan Stevens, Rachel Keller, Aubrey Plaza, Bill Irwin, Jeremie Harris, and Amber Midthunder.
Why It’s Similar? If you enjoyed Vision’s son Tommy’s storyline of struggling to come to terms with his memories and superpowers, then this Marvel series could provide you with ample source of entertainment.
Severance (Apple TV)
Severance is a sci-fi psychological thriller and dark comedy series created by Dan Erickson. The Apple TV series follows a group of Lumon Industries employees who undergo the “severance” procedure, which keeps their work and personal lives separate. Things take a dangerous turn when the severed employees begin to question what they actually do at Lumon. Severance stars Adam Scott, Zach Cherry, Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, Jen Tullock, and John Turturro.
Why It’s Similar? VisionQuest is all about trying to understand a version of yourself you’re not currently, and if you like that, this Apple TV series has a lot of it, and it could become your new obsession.
Murderbot (Apple TV)
Murderbot is a sci-fi action comedy series co-created by Paul and Chris Weitz. Based on Martha Wells’ The Murderbot Diaries, the Apple TV series is set in a distant future, and it follows a private security robot who breaks free of his programming and begins calling himself Murderbot, after which he gets obsessed with various television shows. Murderbot stars Alexander Skarsgård, Noma Dumezweni, David Dastmalchian, Sabrina Wu, and Akshay Khanna.
Why It’s Similar? If you loved the dry sense of humor and robots finding it difficult to care about humans in VisionQuest, then Murderbot will definitely be your jam with giant aliens and deadly robots as a bonus.
Upload (Prime Video, Hulu & Disney+)
Upload is a sci-fi comedy series created by Greg Daniels. The Prime Video series is set in a future where humans can upload their consciousness into a virtual afterlife after they die. The story follows Nathan Brown, a young programmer who dies young and gets uploaded into a very expensive virtual afterlife by his girlfriend. Things take a turn when he begins to develop feelings for Nora, a customer service representative. Upload stars Robbie Amell, Andy Allo, Allegra Edwards, Zainab Johnson, and Kevin Bigley.
Why It’s Similar? If you loved the banter between AIs and the uncanny valley feel in the world inside Vision’s mind, then there is a great chance that you will love what this comedy series has to offer.
Westworld (Rent on Prime Video)
Westworld is a dystopian sci-fi Western drama series co-created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. The HBO series is set in a futuristic Wild-West-themed amusement park where wealthy guests can fulfill their every fantasy with the help of human-like androids. Things take a deadly turn when the androids begin to retaliate. Westworld stars Evan Rachel Wood, Thandiwe Newton, Jeffrey Wright, James Marsden, and Luke Hemsworth.
Why It’s Similar? In the Disney+ series White Vision’s main goal is understanding why the OG Vision protected humans, and in Westworld, the robots don’t struggle with that question much because the humans in this world (at least the ones who go to this amusement park) deserve to die. There are also a lot of interesting philosophical questions that this series asks you to think about, just like VisionQuest.
Loki (Disney+)
Loki is a superhero fantasy action-adventure series created by Michael Waldron. The Disney+ series is set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, and it follows Loki as he is taken in by the Time Variance Authority for his unauthorized time travel. He is soon tasked with hunting down a dangerous entity who’s obliterating timelines. Loki stars Tom Hiddleston, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Eugene Cordero, Tara Strong, and Owen Wilson.
Why It’s Similar? While Loki and VisionQuest don’t have many similarities, if you loved the banter and existential crisis in VisionQuest, then you will find Loki enjoyable.
