There are many great shows in this world and many of them get canceled unjustly, and they don’t get to finish the story they were trying to tell what’s even sadder is that sometimes they end on a note that needs some type of resolution and if it’s a Netflix original series there is even a higher chance of that. So, today we are making a list of every Netflix original series that was canceled in 2024.
Obliterated (2023)
Obliterated is a carefree action comedy-drama series created by Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald. The Netflix series released its first and only season in November 2023 and it followed the story of an elite joint special-operations team trying to stop a deadly terrorist network from blowing up Las Vegas. When the team thinks that they have succeeded in their mission they go out and party hard all night but the very next day they find out that the bomb they diffused was a fake and there is a real bomb out there and it will blow in the next 24 hours. So, now they have to find the bomb and diffuse it while they all deal with the drugs and booze they did last night. Obliterated stars Nick Zano, Shelley Henning, Terrence Terrell, Paola Lázaro, C. Thomas Howell, Kimi Rutledge, Alyson Gorske, and Eugene Kim. The creators of the series had more seasons planned for the team but Netflix had other ideas and because of the low viewership figures the streaming service canceled the series after its first season in February 2024.
Ratched (2020)
This one won’t come as a shock to anyone as it has been almost four years since it came out and still, there is no second season. We are talking about Evan Romansky’s psychological thriller series Ratched which was based on the character of Nurse Ratched from Ken Kesey’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. The Netflix series follows the story of a young nurse at a mental institution who becomes more and more jaded and bitter because of the patients before she turns into a full-fledged monster to all her patients. Ratched stars Sarah Paulson in the lead role with Finn Wittrock, Cynthia Nixon, Sharon Stone, Jon Jon Briones, Judy Davis, Charlie Carver, Cory Stoll, Amanda Plummer, and Hunter Parrish starring in supporting roles. Ratched debuted its first and only season in September 2020 and since then the fans have been waiting for the previously renewed second season but it never came out in February 2024, the star of the series Paulson confirmed that the streamer quietly canceled Ratched.
Erin & Aaron (2023)
Erin & Aaron is a Nickelodeon comedy-drama series created by Dick Murphy. While this cancelation falls more on the shoulders of Nickelodeon than Netflix, the streaming service still carried the series in the U.S. and carried it as a Netflix original worldwide. Erin & Aaron is set in Ashbury Park, New Jersey and it follows the teenage stepsiblings as they deal with the realities of their parents’ marriage and try to pursue their shared passion for music. Erin & Aaron stars Ava Ro and Jensen Gering in the lead role with Pyper Braun, Larisa Oleynik, Luca Diaz, and David S. Jung starring in the supporting roles. In February 2024, the male lead star Gering confirmed that the kids series won’t be returning for a second season.
The Brothers Sun (2024)
The Brothers Sun was Netflix’s ambitious new action comedy-drama series created by Byron Wu and Brad Falchuk. The first and only season of the series is mostly set in Los Angeles, California and it follows the story of the Sun family as the older Sun brother visits his mother and little brother in LA from Taipei, Taiwan after his father becomes a victim of an assassination attempt. The little brother doesn’t know that his family is one of the biggest gangster organizations in Taipei and he finds out in a very deadly and hilarious way. The Brothers Sun stars Michelle Yeoh, Justin Chen, and Sam Song Li in the lead roles with Joon Lee, Highdee Kuan, Alice Hwekin, Johnny Kou, Jenny Yang, and Jon Xue Zhang starring in supporting roles. The Brothers Sun was canceled in March 2024 after its disappointing debut on Netflix in January 2024.
That Girl Lay Lay (2021-2024)
The Girl Lay Lay is another one of Nickelodeon’s kids series that was canceled after its second season and while it is a Nickelodeon series in the U.S. but it is available to stream on Netflix and in the rest of the world it is presented as a Netflix original series. That Girl Lay Lay is a comedy series created by David A. Arnold and it follows the story of a young girl named Sadie who wishes that the phone avatar Lay Lay would become real and help her stand out. Sadie and Lay Lay try to accomplish their dreams when her wish comes true. That Girl Lay Lay stars Gabrielle Nevaeh Green and That Girl Lay Lay in the lead roles with Peyton Perrine III, Thomas Hobson, Andrea Barber, and Tiffany Daniels starring in supporting roles. When the filming for the third season didn’t restart after Season 2, the cast members of the series confirmed in March 2024 that the series wouldn’t be returning for Season 3.
