You Season 4 opens with Joe, who has changed his name to Jonathan Moore (Penn Badgley) and is teaching literature in London, UK. We soon find out that he followed Marienne (Tati Gabrielle) from Paris, France to London but when he finds out that Marienne is afraid of him so he decides to let her go but not before stealing her chain to prove to a henchman working Love Quinn’s father that he has killed her. The henchman was sent to kill Joe but he decided to not do that and give Joe a new identity of Jonathan Moore in exchange Joe has to give the henchman all the money he drained from Love’s secret bank account.

That wraps up the loose ends from Season 3, and now Joe finds himself in the company of the ultra-rich, and that’s where he meets Kate Galvin (Charlotte Ritchie). The new girl Joe tries not to obsess about but fails as expected. Kate is the girlfriend of Professor Malcolm Harding (Stephen Hagan), who helps Joe in getting his job and his apartment. After Joe helps Kate in getting away from some hooligans, he is invited to the Sundry House where he first meets the group of rich a**holes including Adam Pratt (Lukas Gage), Lady Phoebe (Tilly Keeper, not really an a**hole), Sophie Soo (Niccy Lin), Simon Soo (Aidan Cheng), Roald Walker-Burton (Ben Wiggins), Gemma Graham-Greene (Eve Austin), Blessing Bosede (Ozioma Whenu), Connie (Dario Coates), and Rhys Montrose (Ed Speleers, he is Joe’s favorite person in the group).

Joe gets plastered at Sundry House and apparently says something to Lady Phoebe that really impresses her, but when he wakes up in the morning he finds Malcolm on his dinner table with a knife in his chest. Joe rationalizes why he killed him and then disposed of his body but then he gets a text which makes Joe realize that someone was trying to frame Joe now that he has disposed of Malcolm, his true colors are out to the real killer. Now, Joe has to find out the real identity of the killer (Joe thinks that the killer is someone from the group) and get rid of him because he knows the true identity behind Jonathan Moore.

Now, Joe has to keep hanging around the kind of people he hates most but one good thing came out of it and that’s Kate with whom Joe is falling in love and it seems that the same is happening with Kate. Soon Simon is also killed at an art show and now Eat the Rich Killer is in the public eye and there is a strange woman photographer that is taking photos of Joe. There is also a student that Joe admires Nadia Farran (Amy-Leigh Hickman), who unwittingly helps Joe in figuring out who the real killer is. To get away from all the drama the group decides to leave the city and go to Lady Phoebe’s country house where Joe will find out the real identity of the killer. Soon, Gemma is killed in Kate’s room and to help her he offers to hide the body but Kate suspects Joe and that’s why he tells her about Malcolm and how someone tried to frame her, and then Kate believes him.

At this point, Joe’s top suspect for Eat the Rich Killer is Roald who is also obsessed with Kate, but after Roald catches Joe with Gemma’s body he thinks that Joe is the killer and parades him in front of the group and then decides to hunt him in the jungle, but Joe gets a jump on Roald and makes him unconscious. But Joe is in a bit of a surprise because Rhys shows up at that moment and reveals himself to be the real killer and locks both of them up in the cellar in order to convince Joe into killing and framing Roald for the murder but Joe doesn’t do that which makes Rhys angry enough to light the cellar on fire leaving Joe and Roald (who’s still unconscious) still chained up. But Joe gets himself and Roald free from the chains and Kate pulls both of them out of the fire.

Back in London, everybody apologizes to Joe for hunting him and now Joe knows the true identity of Eat the Rich Killer Rhys Montrose, who he will be hunting in the second season.

In Part 2, we first see Joe getting pressure from Rhys to frame someone for the murders and he gets the perfect opportunity in Lady Phoebe’s stalker on whom he plants Simon Soo’s ear. But we later find out that Joe has gone totally cuckoo and split all the bad parts of himself into a different vessel that looks like the man he admires most Rhys Montrose. Joe finds out that the Rhys Montrose he has been seeing isn’t real after killing the real Rhys to help Kate’s father. So, in the end Joe was hunting himself in the first part of the season because Joe is Eat the Rich Killer which makes things even more complicated because now Joe has to face all of himself, even the truly horrible parts.

It turns out that Marienne didn’t actually escape from Joe as we saw in the first part because Joe spiked her coffee and kidnapped her and kept her in the ever-present cage. But Marienne did have sort of a happy ending because Nadia’s crazy plan to fake Marienne’s death in order to make Joe take her out of the cage actually worked and now Marienne is in Paris with her daughter watching Joe being hailed as a hero in front of the whole world.

So, he decides to let Marienne out and kill himself but after finding out that Marienne is already dead he leaves her body on a park bench and then there is only one more thing before biting the bullet and that is freeing Kate from her evil father. So, Joe pretends to be Kate on text to get Kate’s father alone in order to kill him. After doing all of the things he had to do he goes on a bridge above the river Thames and discusses with himself why he has to die. After pushing his mental image of Rhys off the ledge he soon jumps to his death and it almost seemed that this is the end of Joe Goldberg.

Joe is famous now for escaping his psychotic wife and saving London’s elite from Eat the Rich Killer. He also tells the viewers that in his second life, he is not changing that much because murder is still an option for him, and with all of Kate’s resources it is even easier. He also stops being ashamed of all of the bad things he has done.
