Indonesian film director Timo Tjahjanto has finally begun production on his next project The Shadow Strays for the streaming giant Netflix. The upcoming Netflix original is an action film project and will be Tjahjanto’s second outing under his multi-film deal with Netflix.
Tjahjanto usually works with his long-time collaborator Kimo Stamboel, on both writing and directing the project, and they are both known as the Mo Brothers. But the Netflix deal we mentioned above was only for Tjahjanto. The Indonesian director is known for brilliant films like May the Devil Take You Too and The Night Comes for Us.
The first film that came out of Tjahjanto and Netflix’s deal was 2022’s The Big 4, which debuted in Netflix’s non-English language top ten. The production for The Shadow Strays is by Frontier Pictures with Wicky V. Olindo and Anne P. Ralie attached to the project as producers.
It seems like Tjahjanto likes to work with the same actors for a long time because, in the ensemble cast of The Shadow Strays, you will recognize many actors from his previous Netflix film The Big 4. The cast of The Shadow Strays includes Aurora Ribero (Like & Share), Hana Malasan (Ben & Jody), Ali Fikri (Nussa), Adipati Dolken (Why Do You Love Me), Agra Piliang (Galih & Ratna) Kristo Immanuel (The Big 4), Taskya Namya (Waktu Maghrib), Andri Mashadi (The Big 4), Daniel Eka and Tanta Ginting (Star Syndrome), Chew Kin Wah (Buya Hamka), Arswendy Bening Swara (Missing Home), Hiroaki Kato (Ivanna), and Nobuyuki Suzuki (Soekarno).
Currently, there is no information on when the film will wrap production or when it will come out on streaming.
