If you loved the 1995 novel The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith, and then the film adaptation by Anthony Minghella starring Matt Damon, Jude Law, and Gwyneth Paltrow, get ready for another adaptation of the story in Netflix’s upcoming psychological crime-thriller series titled Ripley.

Adapted for television by Steve Zaillian (The Night Of) is looking up to be a brilliant drama with memorable performances and striking visuals. Talking of visuals, before you head any further the upcoming series is completely in Black and white and while that might be a deterrent for some it could add to the story as it is a psychological thriller with complex and layered characters.

Ripley – Plot (What Is It About?)

Ripley is set in the 1960s and it will follow the story of the titular Tom Ripley, a struggling con artist living in New York as he happens to meet Herbert Greenleaf, a rich shipbuilder who hires Tom to go to Italy and bring back his son Dickie Greenleaf. When Tom gets to Italy he quickly becomes obsessed with Dickie’s lavish lifestyle and to climb the social ladder he befriends but his plans are interrupted by Marge, Dickie’s girlfriend. Ripley will mostly show us the twisted dynamics between Tom, Dickie, and Marge.

Ripley – Cast (Who Is In It?)

Ripley stars Fleabag‘s “the hot priest” and Sherlock‘s Moriarty actor Andrew Scott in the titular role of Ripley, with Johnny Flynn (Scrotal Recall and The Lovers) as Richard “Dickie Greenleaf” and Dakota Fanning (The Alienist and The Equalizer 3) as Marjorie “Marge” Sherwood. Aside from the main trio, Ripley also stars Maurizio Lombardi (Princess and Amusia) as Inspector Pietro Ravini and Pasquale Esposito (Hotel Portofino) as Pucci.
