Nicolas Cage’s Dracula is Not Going Easy on Nicolas Cage’s Renfield, In the First ‘Renfield’ Trailer

Universal finally revealed the first trailer of their upcoming vampire comedy flick Renfield. The film tells the story of Dracula’s minion Renfield in modern-day New Orleans. Renfield focuses on the dynamic between Dracula (Nicolas Cage) and Renfield (Nicholas Hoult) and also Renfield’s relationship with a traffic cop Rebecca Quincy (Awkwafina) as Renfield decides to leave his days of slavery for Count Dracula behind.

In the much-awaited trailer, we see Renfield going to a group therapy session to discuss the issues in his bloody employment. We also see him getting commands from Count Dracula as he is interrupted by a group of gunmen and then we finally get a look at the menacing yet hilarious Cage’s Dracula.

Renfield first made his appearance in Bram Stoker‘s 1897 novel Dracula, who was a patient in an asylum he was obsessed with drinking blood because he thought drinking blood will give him immortality. Then he finds Dracula and surrenders himself to him, in turn, Dracula feeds him insects and rats and dangles the immortality Renfield is craving in front of him.

Directed and produced by Chris McKay and joining him in the list of producers are Robert Kirkman, Sean Furst, and Bryan Furst, with Samantha Nisenboim serving as an executive producer on the film. The script for the film is penned by Ryan Ridley with an original story outline from Kirkman, who has previously worked on Adult Swim’s animated series Rick and Morty.

Renfield also stars Ben Schwartz, Adrian Martinez, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Bess Rouss, and James Moses Black.
