Tubi has already decided to greenlight a sequel film for R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead after the first film’s successful streaming debut and favorable reception from both the critics and the audience, as reported by THR.
Based on Stine’s best-selling novel The Haunting Hour, the first film follows Sam, a teen boy, as he moves to an idyllic small town with his brother and mother. When Sam’s brother mysteriously disappears, and everyone forgets he even existed its up to Sam to solve the mystery behind the town to find his brother.
Tubi Chief Content Officer Adam Lewinson said this on greenlighting the sequel film: “Few storytellers have shaped the horror genre for young audiences as profoundly as R.L. Stine, and his work continues to find new life with each generation. Given the breakout success of Pumpkinhead, we’re going deeper into this mythology and continuing our commitment to fans of young adult horror.”
R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead writer and director, Jem Garrard, will be returning to write and direct the sequel. The second film will also be set in Redhaven, and it will center on Evan, a bullied student who discovers a forbidden spell book that can revive the ancient curse on Redhaven. The curse reanimates the previously sacrificed pumpkin-headed children, and now it’s up to a witch dead set on destroying the book to save the town and its residents.
R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead 2 is set to premiere on Tubi this October during Tubi’s month-long horror fest aptly named ‘Terror on Tubi.’
