This May, we are getting a ton of content from the much-anticipated return of Love, Death and Robots and Nine Perfect Strangers on streaming, to the release of some of the most anticipated movies of this year, such as Thunderbolts* and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. Another Simple Favor (Prime Video) – May 1, 2025
Another Simple Favor is a dark comedy mystery film directed by Paul Feig from a screenplay by Jessica Sharzer and Laeta Kalogridis. The 2025 sequel film is set five years after the events of the first film, and it follows Stephanie as she is invited by Emily to her wedding in Italy. Stephanie fears that the invitation is some kind of revenge plot, but still goes to attend the wedding. Another Simple Favor stars Anna Kendrick, Blake Lively, Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Elizabeth Perkins, Michele Morrone, Elena Sofia Ricci, Henry Golding, and Allison Janney.
Heart Eyes (Netflix) – May 8, 2025
Heart Eyes is a romantic comedy slasher film directed by Josh Ruben from a screenplay by Phillip Murphy, Christopher Landon, and Michael Kennedy. The 2025 film follows two coworkers who are mistaken for a couple and are chased by a maniacal masked serial killer who has been killing couples on Valentine’s Day. Heart Eyes stars Olivia Holt, Mason Gooding, Gigi Zumbado, Michaela Watkins, Devon Sawa, Yoson An, and Jordana Brewster.
Nonnas (Netflix) – May 9, 2025
Nonnas is an upcoming feel-good comedy film directed by Stephen Chbosky from a screenplay by Liz Maccie. The Netflix film is based on a true story, and it follows Joe Scaravella, who risks everything to open an Italian restaurant with actual nonnas acting as chefs to honor the memory of his deceased grandmother. Nonnas stars Vince Vaughn, Lorraine Bracco, Talia Shire, Brenda Vaccaro, Joe Manganiello, Linda Cardellini, and Susan Sarandon.
Summer of 69 (Hulu) – May 9, 2025
Summer of 69 is an upcoming coming-of-age comedy film directed by Jillian Bell, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Liz Nico and Jules Byrne. The Hulu film follows Abby Flores, an awkward high schooler who hires a stripper to teach her how to get the guy she has a crush on. Summer of 69 stars Chloe Fineman, Sam Morelos, Matt Cornett, Charlie Day, Natalie Morales, Alex Moffat, Paula Pell, Liza Koshy, Nicole Byer, and Ian Karmel.
Last Breath (Hulu) – May 16, 2025
Last Breath is a survival thriller film directed by Alex Parkinson, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Mitchell LaFortune and David Brooks. Based on the 2019 documentary of the same name by Parkinson and Richard da Costa, the 2025 film follows a group of deep-sea divers as they race against time to rescue a teammate who is trapped hundreds of feet below the ocean’s surface. Last Breath stars Woody Harrelson, Simu Liu, Finn Cole, and Cliff Curtis.
The Brutalist (Max) – May 16, 2025
The Brutalist is an epic period drama film directed by Brady Corbet, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Mona Fastvold. The 2024 film follows László Tóth, a Hungarian-Jewish architect and Holocaust survivor who comes to America in hopes of achieving his dreams. The Brutalist stars Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce, Joe Alwyn, Raffey Cassidy, Stacy Martin, Emma Laird, and Alessandro Nivola.
Fear Street: Prom Queen (Netflix) – May 23, 2025
Fear Street: Prom Queen is an upcoming slasher film directed by Matt Palmer, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Donald McLeary. Based on the 1992 novel The Prom Queen by R.L. Stine, the Netflix film is set in 1988 in the small town of Shadyside, and it revolves around a group of high school girls as they prepare for the upcoming prom, but things go horribly wrong when every Prom Queen contender mysteriously begins vanishing. Fear Street: Prom Queen stars India Fowler, Suzanna Son, Fina Strazza, David Iacono, Ella Rubin, Chris Klein, Ariana Greenblatt, Lili Taylor, and Katherine Waterston.

The Last Showgirl is a drama film directed by Gia Coppola from a screenplay by Kate Gersten. Based on Gersten’s Body of Work, the 2024 film follows Shelly Gardner, a veteran showgirl who is shocked to hear that the Las Vegas revue she headlined is closing down and now must figure out what she will do next. Fountain of Youth (Apple TV+) – May 23, 2025
Fountain of Youth is an upcoming heist action adventure film directed by Guy Ritchie from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt. The Apple TV+ film follows two estranged siblings as they reunite and set out on a quest to find the legendary Fountain of Youth, but a mysterious organization gets in their way. The Wild Robot (Netflix) – May 24, 2025
The Wild Robot is an animated sci-fi adventure film written and directed by Chris Sanders. Based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Peter Brown, the 2024 film follows Roz, a service robot who gets stranded on an uninhabited island and must learn to adapt to her new surroundings. The Wild Robot’s voice cast includes Lupita Nyong’o, Pedro Pascal, Kit Connor, Bill Nighy, Stephanie Hsu, Matt Berry, Ving Rhames, Mark Hamill, and Catherine O’Hara.

September 5 is a historical thriller drama film directed by Tim Fehlbaum, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Moritz Binder and Alex David. The 2024 film revolves around the ABC Sports crew as they cover the Munich massacre of 1972. September 5 stars Peter Sarsgaard, John Magaro, Ben Chaplin, and Leonie Benesch.
