5 Horrible Horror Movies on Prime Video

Published on

Horror is one of the hardest genres to nail down, as even a minuscule mistake could result in a horrific film, and that too not in a good way. The films on this list have also made the same mistake, but in their case, it was not a minor one, as after watching them, it feels like the director had two choices and he always chose the wrong one. So, as a public service, we compiled this list of horrible horror films that are currently available on Prime Video, so that you, our reader, can avoid them.

FeardotCom

FeardotCom is a supernatural horror film directed by William Malone from a screenplay by Josephine Coyle. The 2002 film is set in New York City, and it follows Detective Mike Reilly as he investigates a series of murders that lead him to a sinister website. FeardotCom stars Stephen Dorff, Natascha McElhone, Stephen Rea, Udo Kier, Amelia Curtis, and Jeffrey Combs.

FeardotCom could have been a bad film that was fun to watch for its goriness and creep factor but it just became a bad film that takes itself too seriously and never becomes nowhere as near clever and thrilling as it thinks it is, and most of that fault lies with its horrible story and painfully silly dialogues.

Alone in the Dark

Alone in the Dark is an action horror film directed by Uwe Boll from a screenplay co-written by Elan Mastai, Michael Roesch, and Peter Scheerer. Based on the video game series of the same name developed by Infogrames, the 2005 film follows Paranormal detective Edward Carnby and his team as they fight against an ancient demon, who could destroy the world. Alone in the Dark stars Christian Slater, Tara Reid, Stephen Dorff, Frank C. Turner, Matthew Walker, Will Sanderson, and Mike Dopud.

Alone in the Dark is just one of the many horrible video game adaptations that came out just to insult the fans of the games. This action horror film has all the makings of a horrible video game adaptation, from its brain-dead story to miscast actors.

Birdemic: Shock and Terror

Birdemic: Shock and Terror is an independent romantic horror thriller film written and directed by James Nguyen. The 2010 film is set in the quiet town of Half Moon Bay in California, and it revolves around its residents as they are attacked by a horde of mutated birds. Birdemic: Shock and Terror stars Alan Bagh, Whitney Moore, Janae Caster, Colton Osborne, and Adam Sessa.

Birdemic: Shock and Terror is one of those films that you can just tell will be bad but bad like Sharknado or just bad, that you can only tell after watching it and I am here to report that Birdemic: Shock and Terror is just bad and please stay away from it before it pecks on your skull and begins feasting on your brain.

The Disappointments Room

The Disappointments Room is a psychological horror film directed by D.J. Caruso, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Wentworth Miller. The 2016 film follows Dana and her family as they move into a new house, but their happiness is cut short when Dana begins getting unsettling visions. She soon finds the cause of the visions in a locked room in the attic. The Disappointments Room stars Kate Beckinsale, Mel Raido, Gerald McRaney, and Lucas Till.

The Disappointments Room is an apt title for this film as there is nothing to be found either in the story or the performances, but the biggest sin this film makes is its bizarre ending, which is just the frustrating cherry on a disappointing sundae.

Homecoming

Homecoming is an independent horror thriller film directed by Morgan J. Freeman from a screenplay co-written by Katie L. Fetting, Jake Goldberger, and Frank Hannah. The 2009 film follows Mike and Elizabeth, a couple on a Christmas vacation to Mike’s hometown, but things soon go horribly wrong when Mike’s obsessive ex-girlfriend Shelby kidnaps Elizabeth to get him back. Homecoming stars Mischa Barton, Matt Long, and Jessica Stroup.

The first mistake Homecoming made was to rip off the iconic Rob Reiner film Misery, and that too in such a horrible fashion, but what makes this film really horrible is a combination of things, including bad acting, a worse story, and the sheer laziness of everything.
