If you loved Brad Pitt in the recently released sports drama film F1, then rejoice as some industry insiders have suggested that Apple TV+ has already declared the film a massive success and is planning a sequel.
Directed by Top Gun: Maverick‘s Joseph Kosinski, the Apple and Warner Bros. movie exceeded expectations just a little in its opening weekend by collecting $57 million in the US and Canada and a whopping $146.3 million worldwide.
F1 follows Sonny Hayes, a former Formula 1 driver whose career came to an end after a massive accident on the track. He is given a second chance decades by his friend, whose F1 team is in trouble, and they need a win.
Alongside Pitt, F1 also stars Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia, Sarah Niles, Will Merrick, Joseph Balderrama, Abdul Salis, Callie Cooke, Samson Kayo, Shea Whigham, Layne Harper, and Luciano Bacheta.
‘F1’ & ‘Days of Thunder’ Potential Crossover?

While there is nothing concrete about an F1 sequel, the buzz about the characters of Pitt’s Sonny Hayes and Tom Cruise‘s Cole Trickle from Days of Thunder crossing paths is at an all-time high, especially after Kosinski revealed that he has a plot planned to make both characters work in a single movie.
Kosinski said during an interview that “well, right now, it’d be Cole Trickle, who was [Cruise’s] Days of Thunder character, we find out that he and [Pitt’s] Sonny Hayes have a past. They were rivals at some point, maybe crossed paths… I heard about this epic go-kart battle on Interview With the Vampire that Brad and Tom had, and who wouldn’t pay to see those two go head-to-head on the track?“
So, the dream of seeing and Pitt and Cruise on the track together is still a dream, but we do know that Top Gun 3 and Days of Thunder 2 are in the works and if things work out box office-wise for F1, we will also see Sonny Hayes again at some point. Stay tuned for more updates.
