Massive Spoilers for John Wick: Chapter 4
John Wick: Chapter 4 is definitely the best out of all the brilliant movies in the hit action franchise. The Keanu Reeves action film seems to be at its in this new outing as the titular character goes against the full might of the High Table in Chapter 4 with the help of some old and new friends. Chapter 4 opens with Wick training in the care of the Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne), after which he gets ready to take on the High Table. Few minutes into the film we see John killing the Elder after which the High Table give their full resources to Marquis Vincent de Gramont (Bill Skarsgård) to take out John Wick and whoever helps him.
Then Marquis blows up the New York Continental and kills Concierge Charon (the late actor Lance Reddick) in front of Winston (Ian McShane). We are also introduced to a blind man listening to his daughter playing the violin from a distance, he later turns out to be an assassin named Caine (Donnie Yen) who is ordered by Marquis to take out John Wick after threatening his daughter. It seems like back in the day John and Caine were friends, but to save his daughter he decides to take on the job and swears his loyalty to Marquis.
Then John Wick: Chapter 4 takes us to the Osaka Continental where we are introduced to an assassin named Mr. Nobody (Shamier Anderson) who is with a dog, the manager of the Continental Shimazu (Hiroyuki Sanada), and his daughter Akira (Rina Sawayama). Akira seems to be concerned about her father because of his friendship with John and after what happened with the New York Continental she is right to worry but we soon see that Shimazu is in fact hiding John and that’s when Marquis’ men and Caine come to the Osaka Continental in search of John but after they are met with resistance a kill all fight breaks out only survived by John, Akira, Mr. Nobody, Caine, and some of Marquis men. Shimazu was killed by Caine in front of Akira and Mr. Nobody lets John walk because the bounty on his head wasn’t high enough.
Marquis then employs Mr. Nobody to track John Wick after doing some damage to his hand. After returning to New York John is advised by Winston to challenge Marquis to a duel but to do that John has to have a seat on the High Table. To earn his seat on the High Table, John travels to Berlin to request a duel on behalf of the Ruska Roma syndicate but his adopted sister Katia (Natalia Tena) still holds a grudge against him and to earn the trust of his family back he is ordered to kill the German High Table senior Killa (Scott Adkins), who killed Katia’s father because of John. When John goes to kill Killa he is met by Mr. Nobody and Caine, where his friendship with him is revealed.
When John returns victorious his seat at the High Table is confirmed and he is able to challenge Marquis to a duel with Winston as his second. Against him is Caine who will duel with John on Marquis’s behalf in order to spare his daughter’s life. The duel is set to take place at Sacré-Cœur at sunrise and if any of the parties are not able to make it there on time they will lose by default. The conditions of the duel are if John wins he is free from any service to the High Table and Winston’s New York Continental will be reinstated and if John loses both he and Winston will be killed.
To stop John from showing up at Sacré-Cœur on time, Marquis ups the bounty on his head encouraging all of the assassins in Paris to find and kill John Wick. This leads to a spectacular killing spree at Arc de Triomphe after which John tries to go to the Sacré-Cœur, but the assassins are coming at him nonstop and when he is finally in a battle with Mr. Nobody, John defeats him and just as he is about to kill him John decides to save Mr. Nobody’s dog and spare the man with the dog because that’s who John Wick is, he has no trouble killing assassins but when a dog is in danger people will die.
After leaving Mr. Nobody behind John is then faced with a lot of stairs and a lot of deadly assassins on them. But John kills every single one of them but just as he is about to make it Marquis’ right-hand man his goons show up and throw John off all of the stairs. But with the assistance of Caine and Mr. Nobody, John makes it to the duel on time.
A Duel Between Two Old Friends
The rules of the Duel are that both of the parties will separate by thirty steps and duel with pistols. If both of them are alive after that the distance between them will be 20 steps and if they survive even that the length will be 10 steps shorter. After getting ready, Caine and John fire at each other from 30 steps, grazing each other. They fire at each other again from 20 steps again hitting each other but with no mortal wounds. But after 10 steps Caine shoots John in the stomach, after which John falls to the ground. At this point, Marquis interrupts the duel and takes over from Caine promising him that both Caine and his daughter’s lives are spared. When Marquis goes to kill John with the last bullet, he is reminded by Winston that John didn’t fire his last shot and then John shoots Marquis in the head. Marquis’ death gives John, Caine, and Winston a shot at a happy ending.
Does John Wick Die in Chapter 4
After killing Marquis John requests Winston to take him home and then sits down on the stairs and remembers his wife and that’s when we see the legendary John Wick take his last breath because after that we are shown both the Bowery King and Winston paying their respects to John Wick’s grave who is buried beside his wife.
Is Winston, John Wick’s Real Father?
When Winston is paying his request to John Wick’s grave he says goodbye to his old friend by touching his grave and saying “Farewell, my son” in Russian. The symbol of the Ruska Roma crime syndicate is also seen tattoed on his wrist. But does this mean that Winston is John’s real father, which could totally happen in our opinion, Winston just saw John as his son and was just saying his goodbyes to an old friend.
The post-credit scene of John Wick: Chapter 4 suggests that Akira is about to take her revenge on Caine for killing his father. But as Caine said to Akira that he will be waiting for her. So, Akira might not have been successful in killing Caine. In short the post-credit ends on a cliffhanger.
Is Chapter 4 the End of John Wick
With John Wick dead, Chapter 4 could be the end of the film series but the John Wick franchise will still go on. Two John Wick spin-offs have already been confirmed, the first one is a series titled The Continental, which will see a young Winston in the 1970s taking over a hip New York hotel filled with assassins. The Continental is set to premiere sometime in 2023 on Peacock. The second spin-off is a movie called Ballerina starring Ana de Armas as a dancer/assassin, who briefly appeared in John Wick: Chapter 3, in which she was played by Unity Phelan.
