Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav reaffirms that there are currently no plans for a shift from the strategy James Gunn and Peter Safran laid out for DC Studios, even after the disappointment of Supergirl.
Zaslav spoke about the future of DC Studios during Warner Bros. Discovery’s latest earnings call. He also expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming DC Studios projects, and instead of focusing on Supergirl’s failure, Zaslav is looking ahead to Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow, which is currently in development.
Zaslav also commented on the upcoming DC slate of films and television shows, saying that “we have a robust pipeline, and Peter and James are hard at work.“
The upcoming DC Studios slate includes Lanterns, which debuts on HBO Max this month, as well as Clayface, a moderately budgeted body-horror film set to open in theaters on October 23 of this year. James Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow is currently in development and is set to come out next year.
Zaslav expressed his excitement for Man of Tomorrow, saying that, “James is focused on Man of Tomorrow. I saw some pictures yesterday that looked amazing. Actually, yesterday was James’s birthday, and he’s out working. He’s working 16, 18 hours a day. It looks fantastic. We’re super excited about it.”
What Is Man of Tomorrow About?

Written and directed by Gunn, Man of Tomorrow is being described as the “next story in the Superman saga” instead of a straightforward sequel to the 2025 film Superman. While the upcoming film will continue Clark Kent aka Superman’s story, it will also expand the DC Universe by putting more focus on other characters, making the upcoming film much more of an ensemble.
These statements from CEO Zaslav seem to be a good sign for the future of DC Studios under Gunn and Safran. There are also a few reasons to remain cautious, as Zaslav also praised The Flash before it came out in 2023, and it went on to become one of the biggest disappointments for the DC franchise.
Man of Tomorrow is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 9, 2027.
