If you were wondering what’s happening with the upcoming Clayface film, then we have just the news for you, as it was recently announced that the upcoming James Watkins film has decided to cast little-known Welsh actor Tom Rhys Harries in the titular role.
Rhys Harries has previously starred in the Apple TV+ thriller series Suspicion, the Gerard Butler action film Kandahar, and Guy Ritchie‘s 2019 film The Gentlemen, but even though these shows and movies are well known, Rhys Harries didn’t have major roles in them.
Introduced in June 1940 as a Batman villain as a part of Detective Comics #40. Clayface is a shape-shifting villain whose backstory is that he was a moderately successful actor whose body is made out of clay and can seemingly turn into the characters he plays, but he soon turns to a life of crime.
Clayface will be directed by Watkins, who previously adapted Speak No Evil for the American audience. The first draft of the film was written by The Haunting of Hill House and The Fall of the House of Usher creator Mike Flanagan, and additional drafts have been written by Hossein Amini (The Wings of a Dove).
Clayface is slated to come out next year on September 11, after Supergirl (formerly known as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow).
