July has a lot in store for Netflix subscribers, from the much-awaited new Enola Holmes film to the release of a new Little House on the Prairie adaptation. While there will be many titles making their way to Netflix in the upcoming month, there will also be some great movies and TV shows leaving the service for various reasons. American Hustle (July 1)
American Hustle is a dark comedy crime drama film directed by David O. Russell, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Eric Warren Singer. The 2013 film follows con artists Irving and Sydney as they are forced to work for FBI agent Richie to pull off a sting operation to convict some extremely prominent individuals. Bohemian Rhapsody (July 1)
Bohemian Rhapsody is a musical biographical drama film directed by Bryan Singer from a screenplay by Anthony McCarten. Based on the life of Freddie Mercury, the 2018 film chronicles the spectacular rise of Freddie Mercury and his rock band, Queen, but during the height of his success, he struggles with a fatal illness. Bohemian Rhapsody stars Rami Malek, Lucy Boynton, Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy, Joe Mazzello, Aidan Gillen, Allen Leech, Tom Hollander, and Mike Myers.
Field of Dreams (July 1)
Field of Dreams is a sports fantasy drama film written and directed by Phil Alden Robinson. Based on W.P. Kinsella’s 1982 novel Shoeless Joe, the 1989 film follows a farmer who decides to build a baseball field in his cornfield so that the ghosts of legendary baseball players can play there. Field of Dreams stars Kevin Costner, Amy Madigan, James Earl Jones, Ray Liotta, and Burt Lancaster.
Hellboy (July 1)
Hellboy is a superhero action film written and directed by Guillermo del Toro. Based on Mike Mignola’s comic book of the same name, the 2004 film follows Hellboy, a demonic boy who was raised by humans and becomes Earth’s best defender against evil forces. Hellboy stars Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Jeffrey Tambor, Karel Roden, Rupert Evans, and John Hurt.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle‬ (July 1)
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle‬ is an action-adventure comedy film directed by Jake Kasdan from a screenplay co-written by Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers, Scott Rosenberg, and Jeff Pinkner. The 2017 film is the third film in the Jumanji film series, and it revolves around a group of teenagers who are sucked into the world of Jumanji and must complete the hero’s quest to get back to their world. Madagascar (July 1)
Madagascar is an animated adventure comedy film co-directed by Eric Darnell and Tom McGrath, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Mark Burton and Billy Frolick. The 2005 film follows four animals from the New York Central Zoo as they escape from their comfortable surroundings and soon find themselves in the jungles of Madagascar. Wild Things (July 1)
Wild Things is an erotic thriller film directed by John McNaughton from a screenplay by Stephen Peters. The 1998 film follows Detective Ray Duquette as he investigates rape allegations made by two female students against their guidance counsellor, but he soon discovers something darker at play. Wild Things stars Kevin Bacon, Matt Dillon, Neve Campbell, Theresa Russell, Denise Richards, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Robert Wagner, and Bill Murray.
Under the Silver Lake (July 5)
Under the Silver Lake is a surrealist neo-noir dark comedy thriller film written and directed by David Robert Mitchell. The 2018 film is set in Los Angeles in 2011, and it follows Sam, an aimless young man who becomes obsessed with the sudden disappearance of his mysterious neighbor, and in his quest to find her, he gets embroiled in a dangerous conspiracy. Good Cop/Bad Cop Season 1 (July 6)
Good Cop/Bad Cop is a police procedural comedy-drama series created by John Quaintance. The CW series is set in a small town, and it follows rivaling siblings Det. Lou Hickman and Det. Henry Hickman and they are brought together by their Chief of Police father to work complicated murder cases. Good Cop/Bad Cop stars Leighton Meester, Luke Cook, Devon Terrell, and Clancy Brown.
Sneaky Pete Seasons 1-3 (July 10)
Sneaky Pete is a dark comedy and crime drama series co-created by David Shore and Bryan Cranston. The Prime Video series follows Marius Josipović, a recently released convict who decides to take over the identity of his cellmate, Pete, to escape from his enemies, and goes to Pete’s estranged grandparents’ house. Bob Marley: One Love (July 12)
Bob Marley: One Love is a biographical musical drama film directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Terence Winter, Frank E. Flowers, and Zach Baylin. Based on the life of singer and songwriter Bob Marley, the 2024 film follows the rise of Bob Marley as he rose to fame in the mid-1970s. Saturday Night (July 25)
Saturday Night is a biographical comedy-drama film directed by Jason Reitman, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Gil Kenan. The 2024 film is set on October 11, 1975, in New York City, exactly 90 minutes before the first episode of Saturday Night Live goes on air, and it follows novice producer Lorne Michaels and a group of comedians as they try to create something legendary. Here is a drama film directed by Robert Zemeckis, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Eric Roth.
