July has a lot in store for Netflix subscribers, from the much-awaited new Enola Holmes film to the release of a new Little House on the Prairie adaptation. 30 Minutes or Less (July 1)
30 Minutes or Less is an action-comedy film directed by Ruben Fleischer and written by Michael Diliberti. The 2011 film follows Nick, an aimless young man working as a pizza delivery boy, but things change when he is strapped with a bomb and forced to rob a bank. He takes the help of his friend to find his way out of this deadly situation alive. 30 Minutes or Less stars Jesse Eisenberg, Danny McBride, Aziz Ansari, Nick Swardson, Fred Ward, and Michael Peña.
American Hustle (July 1)
American Hustle is a dark comedy crime drama film directed by David O. Russell, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Eric Warren Singer. The 2013 film follows con artists Irving and Sydney as they are forced to work for FBI agent Richie to pull off a sting operation to convict some extremely prominent individuals. American Hustle stars Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Jennifer Lawrence, Louis C.K., and Michael Peña.
Bohemian Rhapsody (July 1)
Bohemian Rhapsody is a musical biographical drama film directed by Bryan Singer from a screenplay by Anthony McCarten. Based on the life of Freddie Mercury, the 2018 film chronicles the spectacular rise of Freddie Mercury and his rock band, Queen, but during the height of his success, he struggles with a fatal illness. Colombiana (July 1)
Colombiana is an action thriller film directed by Olivier Megaton from a screenplay co-written by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen. The 2011 film follows Cataleya, a young woman whose family was killed by a drug lord when she was only 9-year-olds and as she grows up, she goes on a bloody quest for vengeance. Colombiana stars Zoe Saldana, Jordi Mollà , Lennie James, Michael Vartan, and Cliff Curtis.
Deepwater Horizon (July 1)
Deepwater Horizon is a biographical disaster film directed by Peter Berg from a screenplay co-written by Matthew Michael Carnahan and Matthew Sand. Based on The New York Times 2010 article “Deepwater Horizon’s Final Hours”, the 2016 film revolves around a group of workers on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico as technical malfunctions lead to a massive explosion, leaving them to fight for their survival. Deepwater Horizon stars Mark Wahlberg, Kurt Russell, John Malkovich, Gina Rodriguez, Dylan O’Brien, and Kate Hudson.
Field of Dreams (July 1)
Field of Dreams is a sports fantasy drama film written and directed by Phil Alden Robinson. Based on W.P. Kinsella’s 1982 novel Shoeless Joe, the 1989 film follows a farmer who decides to build a baseball field in his cornfield so that the ghosts of legendary baseball players can play there. Gilmore Girls Seasons 1-6 (July 1)
Gilmore Girls is a comedy-drama series created by Amy Sherman-Palladino. The WB and CW series is set in the fictional town of Stars Hollow, and it follows the mother-daughter duo of Lorelai and Rory Gilmore as they support each other through various hurdles and setbacks. The 2017 film is the third film in the Jumanji film series, and it revolves around a group of teenagers who are sucked into the world of Jumanji and must complete the hero’s quest to get back to their world. Under the Silver Lake is a surrealist neo-noir dark comedy thriller film written and directed by David Robert Mitchell. Saturday Night is a biographical comedy-drama film directed by Jason Reitman, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Gil Kenan. The 2024 film is set on October 11, 1975, in New York City, exactly 90 minutes before the first episode of Saturday Night Live goes on air, and it follows novice producer Lorne Michaels and a group of comedians as they try to create something legendary. Tallulah (July 29)
Tallulah is a comedy-drama film written and directed by Sian Heder.
