The MBC TV K-drama serves as a prequel series to the 1971 Korean series Chief Inspector with the new series being set in the 1950s to 1960s, 10 years before the original series events take place. Chief Detective 1958 follows the story of Detective Park Yeong-han, an ace when it comes to catching petty criminals but he begins to feel frustrated with the corrupt system of the police and decides to do something about it.
