Marvel Studios’ first animated series What If…? director Bryan Andrews says that What If Season 2 may have more Spider-Man stories. The Marvel series premiered back in August on Disney+ and aired its finale of the first season this Wednesday. Over the course of nine episodes, the series visited several pivotal moments in the MCU history and changed them a little bit to see what would have played out differently. Disney+ has renewed the animated series for a second for more What If stories.
A few of the most notable storylines in What If…? Season 1 include Peggy Carter getting the super-soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers, turning her into Captain Carter and T’Challa becoming Star-Lord instead of Peter Quill which brought about some interesting changes to the story. The series also included many more interesting storylines which you should definitely see on Disney+. But we didn’t get to see much of Spider-Man in the series, there were no episodes centered on the fan-favorite web crawler.
Now that Season 1 has come to an end, the show’s creative team is looking ahead to the infinite possibilities that could be coming in season 2. In an interview with Comicbook, the series director and executive producer, Bryan Andrews hinted that there could be more stories involving Spider-Man in the second season. Read what Bradley said below:
Well, we can’t talk too much about what may or may not be happening in Season 2. But we do love Spider-Man, so who knows what may happen in the future. But yeah, we dig all that stuff, so it’s just a question of if we’re able to do enough shows or enough seasons, who knows what we’ll get. We’ll definitely be able to — hopefully, at that point — either revisit characters or revisit characters in a way that we’ve are familiar with and then spin them even something else differently. You know what I mean? But when it comes to Season 2, we can’t say anything about that stuff.
What If…? creator and head writer A.C. Bradley recently revealed that all the scripts for Season 2 are already finished and if there are stories involving Spider-Man they have already been written. Bradley also said that the second season will take more of its storylines from Phase 4, hinting at episodes involving characters from Black Widow, Shang-Chi, and Eternals. What If…? the second season is already in development.
