After giving us a three-hour-long epic biographical thriller in Oppenheimer, it seems that Christopher Nolan‘s next film, The Odyssey, will have a shorter runtime, as confirmed by the film producer Emma Thomas.
Thomas “guaranteed” to Deadline that Nolan’s upcoming Greek mythological epic will be shorter than three hours, but she also said that as of now, she still isn’t sure about the film’s actual runtime, as it is still in post-production.
Just a bit shorter than three hours seems to be the sweet spot for Nolan, as most of his films’ runtimes fall somewhere between 150 minutes and 170 minutes, with his shortest film being the 1998 film Following, which clocked in at 70 minutes.
While some audiences members will be relieved to hear that The Odyssey won’t be going over the three hour mark but some people especially the ones familiar with Homer’s sprawling poem will be a bit concerned because there are a lot of events that Nolan will have to fit under three hours including the Trojan Horse, Cyclops to the Sirens, Poseidon, Calypso, and much more.
The Odyssey has one of the most stacked casts this year, and that’s a big thing because it is coming out the same year as Avengers: Doomsday, and they did a 5.5-hour livestream to announce their cast.
The cast includes Matt Damon as Odysseus, Tom Holland as Telemachus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Robert Pattinson as Antinous, Zendaya as Athena, Charlize Theron as Calypso, Jon Bernthal as Menelaus, John Leguizamo as Eumaeus, Himesh Patel as Eurylochus, Mia Goth as Melantho, Lupita Nyong’o, Jimmy Gonzales, and Will Yun Lee.
The Odyssey is all set to come to theaters on July 17, 2026.
