It seems all the crazy marketing stunts by Timothée Chalamet have worked wonders for his new film, Marty Supreme, which recently became the highest-grossing film in A24 history and hasn’t even come out in many international markets yet.
The Oscar-nominated sports comedy-drama film is co-written and directed by Josh Safdie, who previously made gems like Uncut Gems and Good Times with his brother Benny Safdie.
Before Marty Supreme’s release, many people were doubtful about the sports film making a profit, as it was A24’s biggest budgeted film to date, with a production budget of $70 million, but Chalamet’s viral marketing chops and the film being an immensely entertaining watch made Marty Supreme the success it is now.

Marty Supreme’s current box office earnings stand at a whopping $148.8 million worldwide, $92.9 million of which comes from the domestic theatres, while the other $56 million is international earnings.
A24 has been slowly rolling out Marty Supreme internationally, as the film will not be released in Asia until mid-March, with China releasing it on March 20. The film will also be released in theatres this weekend in France, Switzerland, and Denmark.
Aside from being a financial hit, Marty Supreme is also becoming quite an awards darling as the film earned 9 Academy Award nominations for the 2026 Oscars. Marty Supreme is nominated in almost all of the major categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor. Other categories in which Marty Supreme is nominated are Best Original Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Production Design, Best Casting, Best Costume Design, and Best Cinematography.
Which Film Was the Biggest A24 Hit Before ‘Marty Supreme’?

While Marty Supreme’s sensational run at the box office is incredible but don’t forget the brilliant film that will be losing its top spot to Chalamet and Safdie. We are obviously talking about the 2022 sci-fi comedy-drama film Everything Everywhere All at Once. Written and directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, the independent film made a whopping $143 million on a budget of $14-25 million.
Coming in third is Alex Garland‘s dystopian war thriller film, Civil War, which grossed over $127 million on a $50 million budget. The fourth film is Celine Song‘s romantic drama The Materialists, starring Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal, which grossed $108 million on a $20 million budget. These are the only A24 films to cross the $100 million mark, but as the production and distribution company focuses on making more crowd-pleasing films, this number will only grow in the future.
