2025 might have been a lost year for the film industry after it recorded the worst October box officer in the history of Hollywood without adjusting for inflation, but the cinephiles still have hope from 2026, as the upcoming year will see the release of the some of the most anticipated films coming out including Christopher Nolan‘s epic fantasy The Odysseus and a new Spider-Man film and to top it all of the year is ending with the release of Avengers: Doomsday, which will see the return of Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans in the MCU.

Wuthering Heights (February 13)

Wuthering Heights is an upcoming period romantic drama film written and directed by Emerald Fennell. Based on Emily Brontë’s 1847 classic gothic novel of the same name, the 2026 film chronicles the stormy love story of Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw. Wuthering Heights stars Jacob Elordi, Margot Robbie, Alison Oliver, Owen Cooper, Hong Chau, Martin Clunes, Ewan Mitchell, Shazad Latif, and Charlotte Mellington.

Project Hail Mary (March 20)

Project Hail Mary is an upcoming sci-fi adventure film co-directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller from a screenplay by Drew Goddard. Based on the 2021 novel of the same name by Andy Weir, the upcoming film follows Dr. Ryland Grace, who wakes up on an interstellar spacecraft with no memory of how he got there. Project Hail Mary stars Ryan Gosling, Sandra Huller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, and Milana Vayntrub.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 (May 1)

I don’t clearly know if anybody was asking for this, but now that it’s coming, many people are excited to see Miranda and Andy again. Based on the 2013 novel Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns by Lauren Weisberger, the upcoming sequel will once again be directed by David Frankel from a screenplay by Aline Brosh McKenna. The Devil Wears Prada 2 stars Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci.

Mortal Kombat II (May 6)

While the first Mortal Kombat was somewhat of a disappointment, fans have set their heart on the upcoming sequel as all of the promotional materials look amazing. Directed by Simon McQuoid from a screenplay by Jeremy Slater, the upcoming sequel film will follow Johnny Cage as he enters the Mortal Kombat tournament. Mortal Kombat II stars Karl Urban, Adeline Rudolph, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Tati Gabrielle, Lewis Tan, and Damon Herriman.

The Mandalorian & Grogu (May 22)

The upcoming Mandalorian film will be the first Star Wars film to release in five years. Directed by Jon Favreau, who also co-wrote the film with Dave Filoni, the sci-fi adventure film follows Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and Grogu as they are recruited by the New Republic to fight against Imperial warlords threatening their existence. The Mandalorian & Grogu stars Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, Jeremy Allen White, and Jonny Coyne.

Disclosure Day (June 12)

Disclosure Day is the upcoming mysterious Steven Spielberg film, which will see the legendary director make his return to the sci-fi genre. From a screenplay by David Koepp, the sci-fi drama film will be an alien invasion story as the masses discover the existence of aliens. Disclosure Day stars Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Wyatt Russell, Eve Hewson, and Colman Domingo.

Supergirl (June 26)

The upcoming Supergirl film will be the second entry in James Gunn’s DC Studios. Based on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, the superhero action film is directed by Craig Gillespie from a screenplay by Ana Nogueira. Supergirl will follow the dark origins of Kara Zoe-El and how they affected her. Supergirl stars Milly Alcock, Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and Jason Momoa.

The Odyssey (July 17)

Christopher Nolan’s next film will be an adaptation of Homer’s Odyssey. The upcoming epic action fantasy film chronicles the journey of the Greek king Odysseus as he tries to return to his wife and son after the Trojan War. The Odyssey stars Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day (July 31)

Everybody is waiting for Tom Holland’s next turn as the web slinger in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay co-written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, the upcoming MCU film will follow Peter Parker in the aftermath of the 2021 film No Way Home as he struggles with his loved ones not remembering who he is while also trying to be a hero for the people. Spider-Man: Brand New Day also stars Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, and Tramell Tillman.

Digger (October 2)

Digger is an upcoming dark comedy film directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Alexander Dinelaris, Nicolas Giacobone, and Sabina Berman. While not much is known about the plot of the film except for a cryptic logline that says: “The most powerful man in the world embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.” Digger stars Tom Cruise, Jesse Plemons, Sandra Huller, Riz Ahmed, Sophie Wilde, Emma D’Arcy, Robert John Burke, Burn Gorman, Michael Stuhlbarg, and John Goodman.

Street Fighter (October 16)

Who would have thought that only one teaser could bring a film from complete obscurity to one of the most highly anticipated releases in the next year? That’s what happened with the upcoming Street Fighter film, which made fans fall in love with its premise and character just with a 46-second clip. Based on the video game series of the same name developed by Capcom, the upcoming film stars Noah Centineo, Andrew Koji, Callina Liang, Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i, David Dastmalchian, Cody Rhodes, Andrew Schulz, Eric Andre, Vidyut Jammwal, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, and Jason Momoa.

Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew (November 26)

Greta Gerwig’s next project after the massive success of Barbie will be an epic fantasy film based on C.S. Lewis’ Narnia book series. Written and directed by Gerwig, the upcoming film will adapt the 1955 novel titled The Magician’s Nephew. The Netflix film stars Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Denise Gough, and Daniel Craig.

Avengers: Doomsday (December 18)

Avengers: Doomsday is going to be the make-or-break point for the entire MCU, and the heads of the studios are treating it that way. With legendary actors such as Robert Downey Jr., Patrick Stewart, and many more returning to reprise their iconic roles, there are a lot of expectations from the upcoming film, especially because its budget is expected to reach $500-$600 million. To get fans more excited, the Russo brothers, who directed some of the most popular MCU films, are also returning to helm the next two Avengers films.

Dune: Messiah (December 18)

After two incredible Dune movies by Denis Villeneuve, everybody is extremely excited to see where the visionary director takes the iconic characters of Dune next. While there is a lot of excitement for the next Dune film, there is also a lot of skepticism, as the upcoming film will adapt Frank Herbert’s Dune: Messiah, which was divisive among the fanbase, to say the least. Everyone from Timothee Chalamet to Zendaya is expected to return to reprise their roles.

Werwulf (December 25)

If you loved Robert Eggers’ The Northman and Nosferatu, then we have some good news for you, as the auteur director’s next project will be a period horror film based on the folklore of werewolves. It will be set in 13th-century England in the countryside, and it will revolve around the villagers as a local folklore turns deadly. Werewulf stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe, and Ralph Ineson.
