2025 has become somewhat of a disappointing year for Hollywood as some of the biggest tentpole films that released this year had a lukewarm run at the box office and some outright flopped, including Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four: The First Steps. While these massive films were failing spectacularly on a global scale, the saving grace of this year for Hollywood was horror films, as many horror films had a spectacular run at the box office worldwide, including Ryan Coogler‘s Sinners and Zach Cregger‘s Weapons. That’s why we decided to rank the top 10 highest-grossing horror films that came out this year according to their worldwide box office gross.
10. Together (Rent on Prime Video) – $32.27 Million

Together is a supernatural body horror film written and directed by Michael Shanks. The 2025 film follows Tim Brassington and Millie Wilson, a couple, as they move to the countryside and soon discover that something horrific is causing their bodies to merge together in horrific ways. Together stars Dave Franco, Alison Brie, Mike Cowap, Andrew Mittman, Erik Feig, Max Silva, Julia Hammer, and Timothy Headington.
Despite some background controversies, Shanks’ new body horror film Together has received rave reviews from both critics and audiences, and it also became financially viable for NEON with its box office earnings of over $32 million on a budget of $17 million.
9. Heart Eyes (Netflix & Rent on Prime Video) – $33.13 Million

Heart Eyes is a romantic comedy horror slasher film directed by Josh Ruben from a screenplay by Phillip Murphy, Christopher Landon, and Michael Kennedy. The 2025 film is set on Valentine’s Day, and it follows Ally McCabe and Jay Simmonds, two coworkers who are mistaken for a couple by a serial killer who has been killing couples in horrific ways. Heart Eyes stars Olivia Holt, Mason Gooding, Gigi Zumbado, Michaela Watkins, Devon Sawa, and Jordana Brewster.
Almost nobody would have ever predicted that the completely opposite genres of romantic comedy and slasher horror would blend so well together, but that’s exactly what happened in Ruben’s film Heart Eyes, which delighted viewers and made over $33 million on a budget of $18 million.
8. Wolf Man (Prime Video) – $34.15 Million

Wolf Man is a horror film directed by Leigh Whannell, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Corbett Tuck. Based on the Wolf Man franchise, the 2025 film follows Blake Lovell, a family man whose only goal is to protect his family after they are attacked by a werewolf, but things soon change when he begins turning into a beast. Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott, Julia Garner, and Sam Jaeger.
Many were excited for a Wolf Man reboot or maybe not, as Whannell’s new film disappointed both the critics and the audience and only managed to gross $35 million on a budget of $25 million.
7. Until Dawn (Netflix & Rent on Prime Video) – $54.04 Million

Until Dawn is a survival horror film directed by David F. Sandberg from a screenplay co-written by Gary Dauberman and Blair Butler. Based on the 2015 video game of the same name developed by PlayStation Studios, the 2025 film revolves around a group of friends who find themselves trapped in a time loop where they are hunted down by mysterious killers. To escape, they must survive the horror until dawn. Until Dawn stars Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Odessa A’zion, Ji-young Yoo, Belmont Cameli, Maia Mitchell, and Peter Stormare.
Horror movies just work at the box office despite their obvious flaws. Just look at this year’s Until Dawn. It had many flaws but a fun premise and tons of gore, and because of that, it made a hefty $54 million at the worldwide box office on a budget of $15 million.
6. The Monkey (Hulu & Rent on Prime Video) – $68.87 Million

The Monkey is a horror dark comedy film written and directed by Osgood Perkins. Based on Stephen King’s 1980 short story of the same name, the 2025 film follows the Shelburn twin brothers who reunite as adults to destroy the demonic toy monkey from their childhood that kills people in brutal ways. The Monkey stars Theo James, Tatiana Maslany, Christian Convery, Colin O’Brien, Rohan Campbell, Sarah Levy, Adam Scott, and Elijah Wood.
The Monkey became one of the most-anticipated films of the year after the surprise success of Perkins’s last film, Longlegs, and even though it didn’t exactly fulfill all of our expectations, it was still an extremely entertaining watch, which is pretty evident as it made nearly 7 times its production budget.
5. 28 Years Later (Rent on Prime Video) – $151.24 Million

28 Years Later is a post-apocalyptic coming-of-age horror film directed by Danny Boyle from a screenplay by Alex Garland. The 2025 film is the third entry into the 28 Days Later film series, and it is set 28 years later after the spread of the rage virus. It follows a young boy who ventures out in the dangerous world with his father, leaving the safety of his island, but they soon encounter something they were not ready for. 28 Years Later stars Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jack O’Connell, Alfie Williams, and Ralph Fiennes.
Despite some mild disappointment, the new 28 Years Later film is a competent and entertaining horror film that did modestly at the worldwide box office with its production budget of $60 million.
4. Weapons (Rent on Prime Video) – $259.55 Million

Weapons is a mystery horror film written and directed by Zach Cregger. The 2025 film revolves around an inexplicable event that saw seventeen children walking out of their houses in the dead of night with no apparent reason except that they all belonged to the same classroom. Weapons stars Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Toby Huss, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan.
If you haven’t seen many films in theaters this year, then you must give Barbarians’ Cregger’s new film a chance, just like so many other people. The buzzy mystery horror film became one of the biggest films of the year in terms of profit as it made over a $260 million on its meager budget (meager compared to the budget of today’s Hollywood films) of $38 million.
3. Final Destination Bloodlines (HBO Max & Rent on Prime Video) – $310.4 Million

Final Destination Bloodlines is a supernatural horror film co-directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein from a screenplay co-written by Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor. The 2025 film is the sixth film in the Film Destination franchise, and it follows a woman whose premonition saved many people from a disaster, but she soon realizes that death comes for all, including her family, that was born after she was supposed to die. Final Destination Bloodlines stars Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Teo Briones, Richard Harmon, Owen Patrick Joyner, Anna Lore, Brec Bassinger, and Tony Todd.
Final Destination is back as both the critics and the audiences loved the new entry into the franchise. Bloodlines also made six times its production budget, as it only had a budget of $50 million.
2. The Conjuring: Last Rites (In Theaters) – $332.7 Million

The Conjuring: Last Rites is a supernatural horror film directed by Michael Chaves from a screenplay co-written by Ian Goldberg, Richard Naing, and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. The 2025 and apparently last film in the Conjuring franchise follows Ed and Lorraine Warren as they work their last case involving a Pennsylvanian family who are being terrorized by a sinister demon. The Conjuring: Last Rites stars Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Mia Tomlinson, and Ben Hardy.
It seems like the final Conjuring film is well on its way to becoming the highest-grossing horror film of 2025, leaving behind Sinners and that too with its modest production budget of $55 million.
1. Sinners (HBO Max & Rent on Prime Video) – $366.7 Million

Sinners is a horror film written and directed by Ryan Coogler. The 2025 film is set in the 1930s in the Mississippi Delta, and it follows the Smokestack twin brothers who try to leave their life of crime behind and come back to their hometown, but they soon find themselves facing off against something far more sinister than they had ever encountered. Sinners stars Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Benson Miller, and Delroy Lindo.
Sinners is one of the biggest hits of the year, as it made three times its production budget of $100 million. It also became one of the most loved films of the year, both by the critics and the audience.
