Comedy might be one of the most universal genres in filmmaking, and also the one that is the hardest to pull off. While the genre is universal and for everyone, it is also extremely specific and subjective, and by that I mean I have met some people who don’t like the 1980 film Airplane!. So, we decided to compile a list of all the best comedy films that we think are extremely hilarious, and if you find this list a bit short, don’t worry, as we will be updating this article periodically.

This legendary mockumentary dark comedy film follows Borat Sagdiyev (Sacha Baron Cohen), a journalist from the fictional country of Kazakhstan, as he travels to the United States to make a documentary about the country. As he interacts with the locals and learns about the customs, he discovers many similarities between his country and the United States.
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (Paramount+ & Rent on Prime Video)

This outrageous 2004 satirical comedy film is set in the 1970s, and it follows Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell), a prominent news anchor in the male-driven news industry whose successful days seem to be leaving him behind as an ambitious female reporter starts gaining popularity.
Snatch (Rent on Prime Video)

Written and directed by Guy Ritchie, this 2000 British crime comedy film follows Turkish (Jason Statham), a short-time boxing promoter who gets involved with a ruthless gangster and soon finds himself doing morally questionable things he doesn’t want to do, while various gangsters search for a valuable stolen diamond.
Hot Fuzz (Prime Video)

This British buddy cop action comedy film follows Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg), a disciplined London police officer reassigned to a West Country village. He struggles to get acclimated with the slow pace of life, but soon begins to suspect the presence of a psychotic killer after a series of brutal murders, but everybody in town believes them to be tragic accidents. Hot Fuzz is the second film in Wright and Pegg’s Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy.
Shaun of the Dead (Rent on Prime Video)

Directed by Edgar Wright, the 2004 British zombie comedy film follows the story of Shaun (Simon Pegg), a directionless salesman in London, as he finds himself fighting for survival alongside his best friend, Ed (Nick Frost), and his ex-girlfriend, Liz (Kate Ashfield), after a zombie apocalypse. This is also the first film in Wright and Pegg’s Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy.
Superbad (Starz & Rent on Prime Video)

The 2007 coming-of-age teen buddy comedy revolves around Seth (Jonah Hill) and Evan (Michael Cera), two best friends about to graduate from high school, but before that, they want to go to a party and lose their virginity. Their plan soon begins to fall apart as they go on various misadventures that test their friendship.
The Nice Guys (2015)

This neo-noir buddy action comedy is set in the 1970s in Los Angeles, and it follows the story of private eye Holland March (Ryan Gosling) and muscle for hire Jackson Healy (Ryan Gosling) as they work together to find Amelia (Margaret Qualley), a missing girl involved with a dangerous political conspiracy as well as the adult film industry.
Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997)

This 1997 satirical spy film follows the story of Austin Powers (Mike Myers), a flamboyant British spy from the 1960s, as he is woken up in the 1990s after being cryogenically frozen. He soon finds himself at odds with how the times have changed, but things take a hilariously dangerous turn when his arch nemesis, Dr. Evil, returns from space.
