Dark showrunners are adapting James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera popular comic Something Is Killing the Children. Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese, the German recently created the cult hit series 1899 after their brilliant German sci-fi mystery series Dark.
Something Is the Killing the Children will be the first project to come out after the duo’s recently renewed first-look overall deal with Netflix. Bo Odar and Friese will write, showun, and executive produce the upcoming series. The duo will also direct the first episode of the series.
The first arc of Something Is Killing the Children tells the story of a town plagued by monsters who feast on the children living in the town. The only teen survivor tries to warn the adults but no one believes or listens to him. Then comes a mysterious young woman Erica Slaughter who talks to her stuffed animal and kills monsters. Then the story introduces us to the monster-hunting cabal and their dangerous politics.
The first issue of the comic was released in September 2019 and it sold over 1,75,000 copies, and after multiple printings, it has sold over 2 million copies since its release. Bo Odar and Friese are not the first creators who were tapped to adapt the comic into a series as Trevor Macy and Mike Flanagan were also working on developing the series in 2021 but it didn’t work out.
No release date for Something Is Killing the Children has been decided yet.
