Video games adaptation films have a very sordid past, as most of the adaptations fail to grasp the true meaning of the games and screw up the film in the process, but the train named Hollywood never stops. So, today we are listing the video games adaptation films that are due for a 2022 release.
Uncharted
Release Date: February 18 (In Theaters)

Uncharted the long-awaited Tom Holland film is finally coming to theaters in 2022. The film is based on the highly popular adventure video game franchise of the same name. The film is a bit different from the games as the games focused on a more matured version of Nathan Drake, but the film follows a young and inexperienced Nathan Drake and it also stars Mark Whalberg as Drake’s (younger in the film but older in the games) mentor Victor “Sully” Sullivan. The film will focus on Drake and Sully as they try to search for Nathan’s long-lost brother Sam Drake. The film also stars Sophia Ali as Chloe Frazier. Uncharted is directed by Venom director Ruben Fleischer.
Sonic The Hedgehog 2
Release Date: April 8 (In Theaters)

Sonic has been one of the biggest names in video games and when it was adapted into a film in 2020, it got mostly positive reviews and success at the box office and after that, there was no stopping the little blue hedgehog from getting his second movie. In the sequel Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his new partner Knuckles the Echidna (Idris Elba) return to earth to get powerful Master Emerald and it’s up to Sonic (Ben Schwartz) and his new friend Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey) to stop them from getting their hands on it. Sonic’s other friends Tom (James Marsden) and Maddie (Tika Stumper) are on a vacation and we don’t if they will return in the middle of the film. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is directed by Jeff Flower, who also directed the first film.
Super Mario Bros. Movie
Release Date: December 21 (In Theaters)

Super Mario Bros. is a well known and one of the most iconic names in the video game industry but when it comes to film adaptations, the 1993 adaptation of the game titled Super Mario Bros. was a critical and commercial failure which led to the cancellation of a planned sequel to the film. But unlike the 1993 film, the 2022 film will be animated and as far as the cast goes, it has probably got the best one as it stars Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy) as the voice of Mario, Charlie Day (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) as the voice of Luigi, and Anya Taylor-Joy (Last Night in Soho) as the voice of Princess Peach. The cast also includes Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong. The film is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic.
