David Tennant is back, in a very surprising way. Tennant’s Doctor has made a surprise appearance in Jodie Whittaker‘s final Doctor Who episode. Today, Doctor Who: The Power of the Doctor aired on BBC America and AMC+ in which Whittaker regenerated at the end of the episode, everyone expecting the next Doctor Who, Ncuti Gatwa to show up but unexpectedly Whittaker regenerates into Tennant’s Doctor.
BBC has confirmed that Tennant is officially returning as the official 14th Doctor. Tennant played the popular character from 2005 to 2010. Tennant’s appearance was confirmed earlier this year when it was announced that the actor was filming scenes for Doctor Who’s 60th Anniversary. Now, Tennant’s return has been confirmed and he will not appear only as a brief cameo but will stay as the next Doctor, for some time.
With Tennant officially returning still over a year away, fans will be wondering who will be coming back with Tennant’s Doctor. Mainly, Catherine Tate’s Donna Noble, who is also returning in the upcoming special episodes.
Tennant said that Donna is returning but “Of course, there’s a big mystery there,” he also added “because she’s, as eagle-eyed viewers will know, when we last left Donna Noble, she could not remember the Doctor’s existence, or her brain would melt. So there’s a bit of an issue there.“
Thankfully, we also got a first look at Gatwa’s Doctor Who in the teaser trailer by BBC for the upcoming Doctor Who episodes.
Tennant will appear in three special episodes, which are due to air in November 2023. Check out the teaser for Doctor Who’s next episodes:
